How Does the Saudi VAT Return Work?
A VAT Return is a periodic report every VAT-registered business must file with ZATCA. The core formula:
Net VAT = Output VAT (Sales × 15%) − Input VAT (Purchases × 15%)
- Positive result (+): You owe VAT to ZATCA
- Negative result (−): ZATCA refunds you the difference
- Monthly filing: Businesses with annual revenue > SAR 40M
- Quarterly filing: Smaller businesses (SAR 375K to 40M)
- Deadline: End of the month following the tax period
